What Causes Your Car AC to Blow Hot Air?

The air-condition system in a vehicle consists of many different components, and if any one of them is not functioning properly, the system won’t cool the air as intended. Why is my car AC blowing hot air? Here’s what to look at in order to figure out how to fix a car AC not blowing cold air:

  • Refrigerant Leak: The refrigerant in your car’s AC expands and contracts, going from a liquid to a gaseous state. Its job is to absorb heat and humidity from the vehicle and deliver cool, dry air. If there is a refrigerant leak, the AC won’t work properly and it may be necessary to recharge the AC in your car.
  • Faulty Condenser: The condenser cools the air within the AC unit. If your condenser breaks down, the AC will only blow hot air.
  • Broken Compressor: A malfunctioning compressor won’t circulate the refrigerant through the system, so the air can’t be cooled.
  • Electrical System: If the AC components appear to be working but the system is still blowing hot air, the problem will likely be related to the electrical system. Blown fuses or frayed wires can prevent the AC from functioning as it should.
